Frequency collects personal information in the following categories:

  • Account and authentication information: email address, username, display name, password authentication information, account identifiers, authentication tokens, and confirmation that you meet the minimum age requirement.
  • Profile information: bio, profile photo, favorite music, and other details you choose to add.
  • Content and communications: Frequency answers, Feed posts, song links, captions, genres, moods, reports, support requests, and other information you submit.
  • Social and activity information: likes, Feed preferences, friend requests, friendships, blocks, notification activity, and interactions with songs, posts, profiles, and app screens.
  • Music information: submitted Spotify, Apple Music, or SoundCloud links and related track identifier, title, artist, artwork, and provider information.
  • Technical and usage information: IP address or a protected representation of it, browser or device type, operating system, user agent, request path, timestamps, app events, diagnostics, and security or rate-limit events.
  • Optional device information: a photo selected from your library or taken with your camera for use as a profile photo. Frequency requests access only when you choose that feature.

How We Collect Information

  • Directly from you when you create an account, edit your profile, post, interact with users, report content, or contact us.
  • Automatically when your device communicates with the Service or you use app features.
  • From supported music services when we retrieve metadata for a song link you submit.
  • From local device storage used for preferences, drafts, reminders, and session continuity. On iOS, the native authentication session is stored in the device Keychain.

How We Use Information

  • Provide, operate, maintain, personalize, and improve the Service.
  • Create, verify, authenticate, secure, and support accounts.
  • Publish profiles and user content according to the visibility described below.
  • Deliver Feed ranking, music discovery, likes, friends, notifications, and social features.
  • Retrieve song metadata and open songs in supported services.
  • Send verification codes, password-reset messages, security notices, and other service communications.
  • Measure performance and feature use, troubleshoot problems, and develop improvements.
  • Detect, investigate, prevent, and respond to fraud, spam, abuse, security incidents, policy violations, and legal requests.

Public and Social Information

Your username, display name, profile photo, bio, public profile statistics, Frequency answers, Feed posts, captions, likes, and shared music activity may be visible to other users. Friend requests and friendship information are limited to the accounts and features involved. Reports, blocks, email address, password authentication information, authentication tokens, and private settings are not displayed publicly.

Third Parties and Information We Disclose

We use the providers below only to operate and support Frequency. We require service providers that process personal information for Frequency to provide the same or an equivalent level of protection described in this Policy and required by applicable law, and to use the information only for their contracted services.

  • Render: hosts the Frequency website and application server. API request data, submitted content, IP address, user agent, and security or diagnostic information pass through Render-hosted infrastructure.
  • Supabase: provides authentication and database services. It processes account credentials, email address, account identifiers, authentication tokens, profiles, posts, songs, likes, friends, preferences, blocks, reports, notifications, and app-event data.
  • Resend: provides email delivery and may process email addresses, message content, and delivery metadata for account, security, support, or report-related email.
  • Email providers, including Google: our support and privacy mailbox is hosted by Gmail. Email addresses, message content, and attachments may be processed by the sender's and recipient's email providers.
  • Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud: receive a submitted song URL or track identifier when Frequency retrieves metadata. If you open a song, your device connects directly to that provider under its privacy policy.
  • Apple: may independently process App Store, TestFlight, device, crash, or diagnostic information according to your Apple settings and Apple's privacy policy.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users or the Service, investigate fraud or abuse, enforce our terms, or complete a business transaction subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.

No Sale, Advertising, or Cross-App Tracking

Frequency does not sell personal information, does not disclose it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and does not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs. We will update this Policy and provide any legally required notice or choice before changing these practices.

Music Links

Frequency does not upload, download, host, or stream copyrighted audio. It retrieves and displays metadata for direct links. Supported music platforms are independent services, and their policies govern your direct use of them.

Legal Bases for Processing

Where required, we process information to provide the Service and perform our agreement with you; for legitimate interests such as security, moderation, support, analytics, and improvement that are not overridden by your rights; with consent where requested; and to comply with legal obligations or protect legal rights.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain account information and user content while your account is active and as reasonably necessary to provide the Service. Usage, security, support, moderation, and transaction records are retained only as reasonably necessary for the purposes in this Policy.

You can delete your account from Settings. Deletion removes the account from authentication and deletes or de-identifies associated data as required by law, subject to limited security, legal, and dispute-related exceptions. Residual copies may remain temporarily in provider backups until overwritten under normal retention cycles.

Your Choices and Privacy Rights

  • Edit profile information and manage Feed and notification preferences in the app.
  • Manage camera, photo-library, and notification permissions in iOS Settings.
  • Delete your account from Frequency Settings or contact us for help.
  • Depending on where you live, request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability, or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
  • Complain to your local privacy authority where applicable. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

We may verify your identity before completing a request. Some rights are subject to legal exceptions.

International Processing

Frequency and its providers may process information in Canada, the United States, and other countries where privacy laws may differ. Where required, we rely on recognized safeguards for international transfers.

Security

We use safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encrypted network connections, restricted database access, authentication controls, rate limits, and secure native session storage. No system can guarantee absolute security.

Age Requirements

Frequency is intended for people age 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 17. Contact us if you believe a person under 17 provided personal information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy as the Service or legal requirements change. We will update the date above and provide additional notice when a material change requires it.
